Description:

The historical link between indigenous peoples and their traditional lands goes towards defining their identity, preserving their cultural integrity, and their right to decide how they live their lives as a community. Often their subsistence will depend on their local ecology and natural resources inherent in the land. A severance from that environment can threaten their physical integrity and dignity as human beings.

This legal guide examines some of the international principles and legal instruments that relate to indigenous peoples and their right to land.
